What a difference a day makes. Yesterday's trip was with repeat guests Sean, Chris and Harvey from Wisconsin. We haven't exactly had great fishing the past two years and it always seems we don't get good weather conditions either. This year we had great weather...only the fish were not cooperating for most of our trip. We pulled spinners and crawlers in all of our locations we've been getting nice fish lately (including the day before) but we could only manage one keeper and a couple undersized walleyes. We decided to move to our evening spot a little early hoping that with the cloud cover and the approaching cold front that the fish would be biting a little earlier than the night before. That plan didn't work out! We managed only one nice fish trolling crankbaits before dark. We then moved to another location and pretty soon the fish started to bite. In the next two hours we landed 13 more fish and lost a few too. They were not slamming our baits though, many fish were barely hooked and some came off as soon as we got the net under them. We did have one triple making for some hectic times. Trying to net all the fish and keep the boat going straight with the goofy wind we had was tough. Only three females out of the 15 fish we kept, and they are getting very fat on gobeys. I'm starting to find more and more gobeys in the fish we're cleaning now. We've got today off, which isn't all bad, sounds like the winds are going to be brutal on the bay today. Maybe the wife will let me sneak off to my tree stand this afternoon. Good luck from all of us in the Bay de Noc area.
