Inshore Fishing
"Pitching, Drifting, and Ripping!"
The word "pitching" comes up a lot in conjunction with fishing. It's basically the art of casting some sort of lure to a certain area so as to work it in order to get a fish's attention. In most cases it's not how you cast it, but where it lands and how you retrieve. I am a firm believer in as well as an accomplished artificial bait user that this is the truth based on my catching fact! If you don't believe me just ask the fish! Just kidding! Artificial baits whether it's the hard jig type of a soft rubber style will work if worked properly. Heck, all you have to do is to strike a fish's interest just long enough to get them to act on impulse instead of using their born natural instincts. This is one thing that caught the fish like curiosity killed the cat! I think you get my point!
Drifting is another style of fishing. It doesn't matter whether it's a formed rip or just plain current that's causing you to "make way" it's basically called drifting. This type of fishing offers you lots of fish catching opportunity, especially during these hot times. The saying that comes to mind first is "when it's hot fish gotta swim!" This brings to light that fish have to move to areas where it's comfortable, offers a place to feed, and that feels somewhat safe. No matter what "they have to move to get there!" There is an old saying when it comes to "just drifting." It goes like this "always fish ahead of your self." It has a simple meaning. All you have to do to accomplish this while drifting is to pitch to where you are drifting to not where you have been. Pitching artificial lures while drifting in a "rip or current situation" has been going on for a long time. However, most fishermen never took advantage of it!
With that being said, "plenty of fish are being caught in Warsaw Sound, rivers that connect, and other similar areas. The best way to find a "fishy" situation is to look for feeding or waiting birds; fish oils smells, and any sort of bait build up. The first two suggestions are self-explanatory. The last boils down to any sort of bait build up, which could be surface bait or markings that you see on the old fish finder. The bottom line is where you have any sort of bait build up you have fish in waiting very close by!
Non Artificial Believers
Don't worry I am not going to chastise you for not believing in the usage of artificial bait. There is a rule of fishing and I ask customers this question all of the time. How do you feel about the bait that you are using? I normally know the answer long before I ask. I am trying to bring to light that if you don't believe in the bait that you are using you probably won't catch anything. So therefore for those that don't believe in the artificial stuff the real things is also very good. If you are live bait fanatic then I suggest going with that sort of real bait design. For those that want to cut up what they use for bait that will also work. I'm definitely not putting down real natural bait, because it does work! I still use the natural stuff a lot!
