Fishing along Florida's east coast has been good reports Captain Keith Mixon (www.mixinworkwithplay.com). Around Port Canaveral, Sheepshead continues to aggressively feed on sand fleas, shrimp, and small jerk baits. The average weight of these fish has been two to three pounds with an occasional larger fish. In addition, look for schools of Jack Crevalle to put up an awesome fight near the jetties as well as the locks. Top water lures such as MirrOlure's "MirrOmullet" (red head and white body) will provide some explosive action on light tackle.
Inshore, low water levels and clear skies have helped to target black drum in the north end of the Banana River. Several slot size drum have been caught around spoil islands while using live shrimp or scented jerk baits when fished on the bottom. Also, along the eastern shores of the Banana River south of S.R. 520, redfish as well as sheepshead have been hanging out around docks and other structure. Anglers will have success when skipping jerk baits around docks.
