Headed out to the reef to do a little yellowtail fising on July 2nd. Terry and Vicki Cordle from Ohio joined me for a 3/4 day of fishing. Our first stop gave us some tough conditions with a South West current and a South West wind. Nothing like having baits head towards the front of the boat. After about 15 minutes the tails were slow to respond to our sandballs and chum, so a move was in order.
Decided to run North and setup in 105 feet of water hoping the South West current would work in my favor. The yellowtails were a bit more cooperative but still sluggish to bite. The mutton snapper were a little bit more generouse.
We managed to pick away and ended with three nice mutton snapper; with Terry hualing up the largest at 11 lbs, a rack of yellowtails, and a fat 29" Black grouper that hit a mutton bait.
Although the yellowtail bite was not as good as before the full moon, the muttons were a nice bonus. Oh yeah, I failed to mention the half dozen UFO's that spanked my unexpecting anglers. Maybe some hungry bull sharks???
Next week or so should have the mangrove snapper chewing hard at night as they are done spawning, and the dolphin fishing should pick up with an anticipated South East wind.
Give us a call, and lets go fishing.
