SAM RAYBURN Big Sam remains low and has maintained a very low level all fall and winter and at press time was 157.59 feet with one unit running 5 hours per day with minimal discharge of over 4k cfs (cubic feet per second) when activated. The current lake level is about 5 inches higher than it has been due to recent rains.
Surface water temps are from 54 to 56 degrees and most of lake has excellent water conditions. Some of the most consistent fishing has been on drains, ditches, creeks as bass move in and out depending on weather systems. Look for grass along these depth changes and work them with lipless crankbaits (Frenzy Rattlr's and Rat-L-Traps), slow-rolling spinnerbaits, jigs and Texas rigs.
Experiment with presentations and slow-to-very slow has been producing following cold fronts. Following a few days of warm, moderate weather, bass will become more aggressive whereas a faster retrieve can prove extremely good.
