Fishing has improved in the past week reports Captain Keith Mixon (www.mixinworkwithplay.com). In the last few days of snook season, my clients have had many opportunities to catch snook in and around Port Canaveral. Many of these fish have measured 24 to 38 inches in length. Live mullet free lined near pilings, docks, and the jetties at night has worked well for snook. Twenty pound test Power Pro and a 25 pound test mono leader tied to a circle hook works well around structure covered in barnacles.

When fishing the flats, large "gator" trout can not resist a live pigfish, pinfish, or mullet when fished under a popping cork. Many of these large trout have been caught in three to four feet of water during low light conditions. Some of these fish have weighed up to seven pounds in areas south of S.R. 405 bridge in the Indian River.

In Mosquito Lagoon, redfish have been caught along the flats near Tiger Shoals. Clients have been targeting tailing fish with scented jerk baits and live shrimp in three feet of water or less. Most of these fish have been within the legal slot limit with a few fish measuring up to 34 inches.
