We ran into a couple schools this week in northern Pine Island Sound and Charlotte Harbor. All the fish were big averaging about thirty inches and were schooled tight working along bars. We had several chasing and missing top water lures but they just weren't that interested in the plastics. However live thread herrings was a different story, they fought for the livies.
Snook season started off on the slow side, most of the fish caught are running under size. It should improve as the water begins to cool.
As we move farther into September I expect good fishing for a wide variety of species. The flats will produce better throughout the day and a host of migratory species will begin working back down the coast.
