After the recent cold fronts clients of Sun Coast Kayak Sport Fishing are finding very good refish action in the backcountry areas of Sarasota, and Manatee counties. Fishing shallow mud flats and submerged structure with good moving water the redfish have been very cooperative and show little effects of the cold weather and wind. The baits of choice have been Gulp Shrimp on light jig heads and small crankbaits.
The Snook and Tarpon bite has been good as well in the late afternoon hours during a strong falling tide. The fast moving water flushes bait out and puts the fish on the feed. Chumming has been very helpful in putting the Tarpon in the mood to eat, and once excited they will hit most any bait worked in front of them. The baits of choice for Tarpon and Snook have been Rapala X- Raps and Yozuri Pins Minnows in gold or white.
