Fishing the back waters of Mosquito Lagoon this year has been excellent with most days finding fish at almost every "winter" spot. Live hand picked shrimp tail hooked tossed along drop offs where it goes from less than a foot to four or five feet has been very productive. One trick is to break off the end of the tail of the shrimp to give it that extra scent.

Trout will also be mixed in with the reds with most in the slot but on the smaller side. The famous Mosquito Lagoon "gator trout" can be caught fishing the sand holes in 1-2 feet of water later in the morning as they sun themselves.

As for artificials, nothing will beat a good ol' fashioned plastic jerkbait. Rip Tide flats chubs blind casted along grassy edges will produce plenty of reds. Also, Rip Tide realistic shrimp worked very slowly in the same areas are also working well.

Year round, the lagoon is tough to beat for light tackle saltwater action!
