Capt. Rick Stanczyk had a great day in the everlgades on 1/6/11! He went for a day of fun fishing with his girlfriend and mother, Elizabeth and Ginger Baxter, and good friend Jonathen Ness. They fished way back around the mainland of florida and the cape in the morning. Water temps were normal for this time of year, in the high 60s. We got back around the cape around 9:00 am, tide was falling back there till almost noon. Lots of work going on in the east cape canal, big barges putting in some dams, interesting stuff! Great bite of redfish the first spot we stopped, and a handful of decent size black drum! Mostly in some deeper channels, fishing shrimp on the bottom and with jigs. We ran up in a few winding creeks and caught a few more reds, along with some nice trout and ladyfish. Stopped and had lunch on the beach when the tide quit - perfect timing around noon! Ended the day running around the gulf side back towards home, the water was real dirty with the west wind blowing so we didn't see much around the usual spots where you may find a cobia or triple tail lurking. We did fish a few runoffs closer to home and caught some more trout and ladyfish, and a few larger reds around one of the islands on pinfish! All in all probably caught 30 drum altogether! Another great day spent on the water in the florida keys fishing!
