Fishing Report, Lake Guntersville 7/19/08
The "dog days" are upon us, the lake is slowing and the catches as well as the size are showing signs of the summer time fishing. The numbers this week ranged from 7 to 15 a day and the bigger fish above five pounds were harder to find as we only caught one fish this week in the 6-pound range. The early morning bite on top also slowed this past week as we seemed to have a north wind in the mornings and it was a little choppy for the bait to be moving and hence the bass to be hitting top water. When we did find the top water bite it was generally a good lunker type fish!
The lake also changed this past week some the second shad spawn has already arrived there is bait everywhere; and it appeared by the end of the week the bass were already showing some signs of the fall pattern by chasing bait into the creeks.
I fished mainly mid and upper-river this week working ledges and grass edges, then moved some to the creeks in the 8 to 9 feet of water and seemed to find fish. With some early signs of fall patterns showing up we should see the crank bait and spinner bait bite to pick up all over the lake.
