Friday I had the pleasure to be one of the Captains for the 2012 Ronald McDonalds Fishing for Hearts Grand Slam Tournament. I picked up my 3 anglers and made a beeline for a local redfish area that I knew would be great for the first few boats in.
We were lucky enough to be on of 6 boats on the Redfish first. Chuck was quick to hook a quality redfish. Cut Pinfish on a 2/0 circle was our rigging for the redfish. Moments later we were measuring a chunky 27.5" redfish taking pictures for this all release event. Minutes later it was Chuck again fast into a bigger redfish this time a fat 9 pounder just shy of 30". The Redfish spooked with all the boats and ran right past us.
Needing to catch snook I ran to a local pass that was holding quality snook all summer. The snook apparently were working their way up into Tampa Bay as the only action was flounder and trout.
Needing to be in early we decided to get our trout which we did easily but we couldn't find any tournament size trout. We had a blast catching Trout, Ladyfish, Jacks even grouper on a lush 3' grass flat. We had several sharks treat us badly along with what appeared to be a large Cobia that pounced on several of our rods quickly breaking off!
Fun day great cause.
