Fishing Fort Lauderdale on Happy Day Today with Capt. Zsak

A gift to remember

Pat Gehring chartered the Happy Day Today along with the Topshotfishing team for an eight hour trip as a "Thank You" gift for her nephew, Louis, for helping her move. Lou was joined by five of his friends and family, Derek, Danny, Rickey, Billy, and Kiven on this fishing adventure.

On our way out, we stopped to pick up a dozen live Goggle Eyes from T&T Bait. Fifteen minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in the water, as I started to troll by the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale FL. I headed north and trolled over some of our artificial wrecks located in Fort Lauderdale catching a total of 6 Bonitos and 10 Black Fin Tunas.

It is hard to leave fish to find fish, but the boys wanted to catch a Sailfish, so I stayed to my game plan and set up two kites, with two live Goggle Eyes from each kite. A dorsal fin appeared on the right long – a Hammerhead Shark - as he grabbed the live Goggle Eye and devoured it. Forty-five minutes after, the 300 lb. Hammerhead Shark was brought to the side of the boat for picture taking and was released. Our next predator was the black shadow – bill and dorsal fin out of the water as he chased the bait fish around. After eating the live Goggle Eye, the Sailfish immediately came out of the water to show his tremendous strength, as the 50 lb. Sailfish pushed the water out of his way. Twenty minutes later the Sailfish was brought to the side of the boat, pictures were taken and the Sailfish was released.

I went back to the same place to set up the two kites; another Hammerhead Shark appeared and fifty minutes later was brought to the side of the boat – this Shark looked like the twin of the first one – pictures were taken and released. Same set up – this time another black shadow appeared – a Sailfish ate the bait from the left long and swam off, taking with him ¾ of the line off the reel. As I backed down on the fish, a little boat was approachin,g and even though we screamed, yelled and blew the horn, the boat paid no attention, kept going and cut the line on us. With disappointment, we went back and set up again. Right Short!!! Black shadow again! Sailfish hooked up! The Sailfish was brought to the boat, pictures were taken and released.

With smiles on all 6 anglers' faces and a gift to remember from Pat, it was time to head back to the dock at Bahia Mar 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
