Offshore

Offshore fishing has been both suprising and fantastic for this time of the year. Even though this is not prime Sailfish season someone needs to tall the Sails that. On Saturday 06/14 Smokin Em went 2-6 with Sailfish hook ups trolling ballyhoo on mono rigs. On Sunday 6/15 Smokin Em went 1-3 on Sailfish on a 1/2 day charter. On Tuesday 6/17 Smokin Em went 3-5 on Sailfish fishing 60-130' of water trolling ballyhoo. Sailfish are running in small packs and can be seen free jumping all over the place once offshore. Dolphin are still being caught however not in the large Spring masses, weedlines are just finally starting to really develop so we look for an increased number of Dolphin to soon arrive. Slow trolling ballyhoo and working the larger weed masses with live baits will surely provide the best catches. Kingfish action has been nothing short of phenominal with the majority being in the 10-20 pound class however a few 35-50 pound Kingfish can be found working the bars and smoking the reels. Drone spoons and live baits have provided the best action working the bars. Wahoo have been few and far between however we are looking for the numbers to increase once the smaller "bullet" Bonito show in numbers. Bonito have been all over the place and even though not the best table fare they definitely put up the fight of a lifetime, especially on smaller gear. Bottom fishing has been consistent with the majority of the catch being Mangrove Snapper and Black Sea Bass. White and Blue Marlin should start making a showing for those dragging the deeper depths of 250-400' of water and trolling larger lures.

Bahamas

Yellowfin Tuna action continues fishing the other side of the Gulfstream. Fishing 20-30 miles north of the Bahamian Bank has provided the most action for those dragging cedar plugs. Wahoo action has been fairly consistent at the 500' ledge dragging black Braidrunners. Marlin action has been fair, however the best action has been those dragging the largest of lures available.

Inshore

Tarpon has been the main targeted species this month and the numbers of fish that are in the area is unbeleivable. Tarpon ranging from 10-200 pounds can be seen rolling all over the rivers. DOA Terroreyz have provided the best action one rolling and feeding fish have been found. Last week Smokin Em Too went 5-7 on Tarpon fishing the North Fork of the St. Lucie River. Snook action has continued to be fantastic with the spawn taking place with live greenies being the prime bait. Even though catch and release at this time these fish will definitely let you know why they are a sought after gamefish. Trout action on the Flats has continued to be productive for those targeting the deeper potholes especially since the water temps have risen. Redfish action is the best at first light and schools of Reds can be found north of Ft. Pierce Inlet. Mackerel and Bonito have become abundant in the Ft. Pierce inlet and are definitely fun on smaller tackle for those just looking for a fun day on the water.
