The sailfish are here in Fort Lauderdale right now. The past few weeks have been rough weather, but the sailfish have been biting in really good numbers. Kite fishing, trolling, live bait trolling have all been yielding good catches of sailfish, mahi mahi and wahoo these past few weeks. The big storm we had off our coast made the seas pretty rough this week, but we fished most days regardless. Most of the trips we caught dolphin fish, wahoo, tuna, and sailfish.
The dolphin fish have been coming in packs of about 6-8 fish and have been hitting us randomly throughout the trip. A couple big wahoos are hitting too, most of them over 20 pounds. This weather has been bad because of the storm, but it's a lot nicer weather now since it's past us now. Today we went out and caught a quad sailfish. We were trolling the Fort Lauderdale reefs in about 100' of water and all the sailfish hit at once. We had 4 sailfish on at the same time. The mate had a helluva time keeping everyone's line straight, but we were victorious and caught all 4 of them. We had 4 fish jumping all at the same time. It was quite a sight. We released them all, and all the fish swam away healthy to be caught another day.
All in all, we've had excellent fishing these past few days and haven't come in without a great catch all week. Sailfish are biting great and the bait is here. The mullet are running down the beach and with them are coming all kinds of different game fish behind them. Sailfish should be biting for the next few months and the wahoo and cobia will be with them. Let's go fishing!
