Fishing Report Vancouver Island BC
Why Salmon Fishing Vancouver Island is so hot in 2010!
The salmon fishing on the west coast of Vancouver Island continues to impress us in 2010. We knew the fisheries' forecasts had us catching more salmon than in years past, but we didn't have any idea just how good it was going to be!!! Media reports in Washington, Oregon and California had many people wondering if fishing was any good up North. After all, if fishing was so poor south of the border, how good could it possibly be just a ways north???
I think the information is slowly getting around the lower 48 and and across Canada that Ucluelet is one of the best places anywhere to catch salmon. Since Alaska is part of the US, much of the attention is given to that area. Google gives a high weighting on companies based in Alaska if searching for salmon fishing in the lower 48 because it is part of the US. Therefore many people don't realize that salmon fishing could actually be better further south. Many TV shows like to show the extremes of Alaska, and therefore attention is given in that direction.
Chinook (King) salmon limits however are better in British Columbia and many fisherman are starting to realize that Chinook (King) salmon fishing is actually better on the west coast of Vancovuer Island than Alaska. (not just because of limits).
I am a fishing guide in off Vancouver Island in a place called Ucluelet. You have have heard of it before, but either way if you aren't planning a trip here in the summer, you definitively should. Salmon fishing has been way better than anyone imagined from February until now and continues to exceed expectations. Many days see you limit of Chinook (King) salmon in just a couple hours. We are using coyote spoons, Silver Horde spoons, green and glow hutchies almost anything you put down will get hit! Check out our fishing blog at www.salmoneye.net/blog/ for more current pictures!
Tight lines and great fishing!
