Sun Coast Kayak Sport Fishing is seeing very good action for the big three of inshore fishing here in southwest Florida - Snook, Redfish, and Spotted Sea Trout.
In southern Tampa Bay from Bishop Harbor through Miguel Bay clients of Sun Coast Kayak Sport Fishing have been catching and releasing great numbers of Snook. These fish have been primarily in shallow areas adjacent to mangroves and oyster beds. What has been even more fantastic is the increased numbers of sight fishing opportunities for these popular game fish. Quietly cruising along the mangrove shorelines, and keeping a sharp eye for Snook has proven very effective. Live bait has been key lately with small pilchards and shrimp topping the list but DOA Shrimp and small plastic jigs have been effective too.
Redfish have been very active in these areas as well and clients have been catching them in the same manner - with a great many sight fishing opportunities. The Spotted Sea Trout are also very active first thing in the morning and late in the afternoon. Topwater baits and DOA Shrimp on a deadly combo rig have been super effective in catching nice sized Sea Trout to 24" in many areas.
Night Fishing in Sarasota Bay for Snook has been some of the best night fishing I have seen in some time. Very good numbers of Snook are concentrated along the ICW on dock lights from Anna Maria Island down through Venice. Most of the fish are ranging from 24" to 27" with a few over 28". This is fantastic catch and release excitement for anglers of all skill levels. Sun Coast Kayak Sport Fishing clients have also been finding really good numbers of Redfish and Spotted Sea Trout along the lights as well. This makes for an exciting night of fishing.
