Sun Coast Kayak Sport Fishing spent the day doing some on the water testing with area business, Stand-N-Fish, in southern Tampa Bay. The Snook were on fire and in great numbers as they have been for the past couple of weeks. The Snook continued the trend of laying up in large schools in deeper cuts along mangrove shoreline and provided many great sight casting opportunities. The numbers of large fish continues to be consistant too with slot or bigger fish always in the mix within these areas. Today was no exception with a hook up with a truly giant Snook that easily would have topped the 40" mark - only to have the fish tear the leader at boatside.
Big Snappers were also in the mix and huge schools of Mangrove Snapper are laid up along overhanging structure. These fish are running upwards of 17" in a number of areas.
The shallow grass flats are also producing great topwater action for Snook and Sea Trout early in the morning, especially at low tides. Redfish are also a possibility in many areas but not as consistant as the Snook. Today only one 21" Redfish was caught and released.
