It is finally here! The big Tarpon migration of Spring and it is already shaping up to be an awesome year. The weather is co-operating and the fish are showing up in great numbers already. While peak season is still a few weeks away this is the best time to get out and get some early season action in before th big crowds get the word about the 'Poons being here.
Sun Coast Kayak Sport Fishing has been keeping an eye on the Tarpon numbers and after this mornings trip I can comfortably say that we will be running Tarpon charters daily by kayak until late June/early July. So far Sun Coast Kayak Sport Fishing has jumped 5 Tarpon with three to boat side for a quick release over only 1 1/2 days of fishing for them. With numbers like that you can't go wrong.
Early morning is the best time and we have been getting a great showing of fish rolling just before and after sun up - with another good showing around 9 AM or so. It is also possible to target them in the late afternoons up in the shallows as they sun themselves but don't roll as often. Live bait is key tro good numbers and there are plenty of nice crabs this year unlike last year when they were scarse. Also Threadfin Herring are plentiful and make an excellent bait as well.
