In Boca Grande/Charlotte harbor, As I like to refer to as Disney land for fish, the bay fishing is on fire!
This area was much less effected by the red tide. In my opinion this is due to two rivers the Myakka and the Peace feeding the harbor helped keep the red tide bloom out of the back country, unlike Sarasota Bay which has no major river system. I ran two trips in the last ten days in this with clients catching snook in pot holes and along mangrove lines up to 34 inches, along with redfish around docks and bar edges and multiple seatrout in the deeper grass flats. All fish were caught on DOA jerk baits, shad tails and deadly combos. With early warm weather the bait has just started to show up on the flats with snook right behind them ready to gorge after there long winter of light feeding. If you are looking to fish the flats right now for some of Florida’s finest game fish, I highly recommend you book a trip with me to experience this world class fishery.
Our waters are under constant pressure from humans, nature and mismanagement so please keep what you need for a fresh catch dinner, don’t need to keep all you catch.
