Sun Coast Kayak Sport Fishing clients have been seeing steady action for Snook, Redfish, and Spotted Sea Trout during both day and evening kayak fishing trips in and around the Sarasota area. The best action has been from just north of Bishop Harbor in Tampa Bay down through Sarasota and into Roberts Bay.
Snook, Redfish, and Sea Trout are the "Big 3" of area inshore saltwater sport fishing and now is the time to get out there and take your best shot at completing and Inshore Slam (Snook, Redfish, and Trout on the same day). Clients of Sun Coast Kayak Sport Fishing have been completing Slams with more and more frequently lately as the weather warms and fishing is exploding throughout the area.
Other fish we have been encountering include Spanish and King Mackerel, Pompano, Sheepshead, and a lot of big Mangrove Snapper in some areas.
This past weekend was also the last 3 day kayak fishing and camping trip of the year. Clients of Sun Coast Kayak SPort Fishing enjoyed three days and two nights of kayak fishing and camping in the pristine waters of the 10,000 Islands. Fishing in these areas is some of the best anywhere - and even when the fishing isn't at its best, the scenery and wildlife more than make up for the slow bite. This past weekend clients of Sun Coast Kayak Sport Fishing caught 13 different species of fish over 3 days including Snook, Redfish, Snook, Sea Trout, Mangrove Snapper, Gag Grouper, Juvenille Goliath Grouper, Pompano, Jack Crevalle, Spanish Mackerel, Sheepshead, Lemon Shark, and a Sawfish ( which was carefully unhooked and released without being removed from the water - a strong testiment to the need for a good dehooker ). All in all the fishing was steady with some slow periods though as winds increased later in the days. Over the three days 3 complete Inshore Slams and almost a Grand Slam ( Tarpon as well ) occured.
What was really spectacular, at least for me, was the amount of wildlife in these remote areas. Virtually every morning was highlighted by free jumping Tarpon in the deeper areas just out from the campsite. While throughout the day giant Manatee, and Sea Turtles were seen surfacing throughout the area, Dolphins were schooling and feeding on the surface, an Eagle was perched on a piece of old driftwood, and many other birds were wading in search of food. Truely a magnificent experince. I can't wait for next years trips.
Lastly, the Tarpon are almost here and it is time to book kayak fishing trips for Tarpon before they are all gone. There are only a limited number of days and they are begining to go fast. Book your trip today to insure your spot.
