Redfishing has been up and down this week with one day a tough bite, the next they are willing to take pigfish, shrimp, or jerkbaits.
While poleing a flat yesterday in search of reds, we had several fish push off into different directions that at first looked like large mullet. As I was on the platform I could see the next group of 6-10 fish moving very slowly in front of the boat and got a close enough look that these fish we were seeing were not mullet at all. Black drum! This was on a huge flat in Mosquito Lagoon in less than 2 feet of water.
Try throwing crab imitation flies for artificial. As for live bait drum love chunk blue crab or jumbo shrimp.
Tarpon are still in the ICW rolling before daylight and the first hour. Try slow trolling a large live mullet on one side and a diving plug on the other such as a Niles Master. Sight fishing should also produce with most fish going around 30-40 pounds. I have seen some larger one's well over the 100 pound mark.
Sept. is booking so give me a call to secure your charter before I'm booked up!
