Laura-Jay October Report School Bluefin and Stripers It's not over yet.
Fishing in Cape Cod Bay and Stellwagon Bank is showing no signs of slowing down now that we are entering October. The School Bluefin action is still excellent, and we are seeing lots of fish both on the troll and with top-water casting action. We are seeing top-water schools inside Cape Cod Bay and there are plenty of 80-100lb class size fish on the Peaked Hill Bar. There are also some Giants mixed in and its' quite a site to see them knocking 10lb Bluefish clear out of water. The only major change that we are seeing from the September action is there are a lot less boats and competition out there definitely making our lives easier. The Bluefin tend to migrate on the Full moon and the moon last week seemed to have brought more fish into the area, without losing any. We should have the fish right into November, barring any Hurricanes or significant drop in water temp.
On the Bass and Blues front, fishing is strong as both species are getting ready for their annual migrations and have the feedbags on. Earlier this week, Provincetown was absolutely loaded with surface feeding Stripers and Blues Blitzing up and down the beaches at Race Point. Billingsgate is solidly giving up Big Bass and we are seeing blitzes in front of the Canal on an almost daily basis. This time of year requires a bit of scouting around, as the fish are on the move but intercepting these big migrating schools can account for the best fishing of the year.
This time of year bookings tend to slow, but the fishing stays strong. So give us a call if you want to get one or two more shots in before the long cold winter.
Good luck out there.
