Fishing for bass in Alabama requires patience. Especially when its been cold, like during most winter seasons in January and February. But not this cold...

It also means having enough good sense to know when not to be on the water! Unless like myself you have to make living. Then, no matter what the conditions are or how cold it gets, if you can get the boat in the water, the challenge is always there.

After guiding on every lake in Alabama for over 40 years (thats over 40 winter seasons as Alabama's oldest, professional freshwater fishing guide service), I have been out in every kind of condition, bad weather and extreme challenge there is.

But not this past week!

Like I said; "you have got to have good sense"

Bad news? No, bad weather. Very bad. The kind

That can kill you!

For the last two weeks its been very cold throughout all of Alabama. Nighttime lows dropping into the teens on many nights. Some nights it was 6 degrees in north Alabama! Many

days it did not even reach 35 degrees!

Even this weeks sudden snowstorm almost shut down the mid to lower portion of Alabama with people trapped for hours in Birmingham and Montgomery with many stuck on Interstates and country backroads closed for two days!

The good news is its going to get better this coming weekend! Although water temps are in the low 40's (and its going to be in the teens again tonight), Thursday its looking like 50 degrees, with Friday lows in the 30's and daytime highs near 55 and warming even more this weekend.

Daytime highs are expected to be in the low 60's Saturday and a week long warming trend is predicted for all of next week! Rain expected Tuesday-Friday as the first week of February arrives!
