Fort Lauderdale Fishing with Capt. Mike 7/11/11

Fishing Fort Lauderdale on the Local Knowledge Sport Fishing boat with us this morning was Renato and his son Miguel, who joined Chris and Abigail from Texas for some offshore fishing fun. After loading everyone up and securing some goggle eyes from Lauderdale Marina we cleared the inlet about 8:15. With our reef system and drop off so close to shore we had lines in within twenty minutes. We started the day on the troll just look for a little action for the kids with some kings and bonitas. Abigail and Miguel each caught a bonita or two and Abigail caught a nice king to boot. Now Chris had fished on the Local Knowledge's sister ship the Hooked Up with Capt. Taco a couple days prior to this trip and was very lucky to catch a big Hammerhead shark. So we wanted to see if he could continue his luck by capturing a Dusky or Bull Shark. We set up just outside a shallow wreck with the goggle eyes out of the kite and the big shark baits just off bottom. A big kingfish was the first to take a bait and Renato did a great job of bringing him to the boat and then that was it, we fished for an hour with no more bites and the wind fell out on us so the kites were not cooperating. I had My mate for the day Lige wind everything up and we raced toward the sea buoy for a last ditch effort, which paid off big time. Within 15 minutes we got a huge bite on one of the shark baits on the Penn International 80# class rod. We cleared the other lines and Chris jumped in the fighting chair for his second big battle of the week. After a brutal tug of war Chris Finally won the battle and brought the bull shark to the side of the boat for some great photos and a nice release. Great Job Chris!!
