Fishing Fort Lauderdale on Happy Day Today with Capt. Zsak
Ron Miller and wife, Joyce, from Texas decided to enjoy some deep sea sport fishing aboard the Happy Day Today along with the Topshotfishing team. Ron came down for a business convention and decided to mix some fishing pleasure with business. We left the dock and fifteen minutes later lines were in the water at the drop off by the sea buoy in 120 ft. of water located in Fort Lauderdale, FL, less than 2 miles from shore. With the movement of Shark migration south off of Fort Lauderdale on national news, enticed Ron to try his luck at Shark fishing.
After purchasing a dozen live Goggle Eyes from T&T Bait inside the port, I headed out to the Shark grounds. With winds out of the east, southeast at 10-15 mph for the last couple of days, pushed the blue waters all the way into 80 ft. of water. I headed out to 350 feet of water where we had been catching Sharks the past couple of days. I put out Shark baits on the surface, midrange and the bottom and two live Goggles Eyes from the kite for any other predators coming through. Our first fish came on the left kite bait. As the fish exited the water, we could tell it was a Mahi Mahi - the sun was reflecting off his body, shimmering gold, green and blue. Ron was our first angler while Joyce took pictures of her husband bringing in a good size Mahi Mahi. We reset our kite and this time Joyce was our angler, catching an identical size Mahi Mahi. Shortly after, a dorsal fin belonging to a Shark appeared on the left kite. Frantically the Shark crissed crossed and circled the bait, but obviously he needed glasses because he never found the bait and swam away. We all had a good laugh watching the scene!!! Then an explosion of whitewater took place on the surface Shark bait, as the Shark thrashed the water eating the Bonito slab bait. The fun began!!! Ron hopped into the fighting chair to begin the battle of man vs. Shark. Forty minutes later, the Hammerhead Shark was by the side of the boat for a photo shoot. Pictures were taken and the 7 ft. Hammerhead Shark was released.
Everyone had a good time, but it was time to head back to the dock at Bahia Mar 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
