We had a flying start to the fishing at Skipskop on Sunday when both the Awesome boats left Struisbaai harbour early the morning on a fast run on flat seas to the fishing grounds at Skipskop. With reports of nice Cob and Cape Salmon being caught we headed for the first marker where we new these fine fish tend to congregate, and on our arrival we saw another boat already pulling in the fish.
Our skipper found the fish on the Lowrance and we dropped anchor, got the lines in the water and almost immediately the first fine Cape Salmon (Geelbek) was on the hook and boated. We fished the area for an hour or so, landing a few legal sized fish and also returned quite a few undersized fish to the water.
After we all got our legal quota we decide to look for other species and started fishing a few of our regular spots. As the day progressed we managed a number of different fish species including a lovely White Steenbras, a bag of Santer (Soldiers), quite a few nice Red Stumpnose and Red Roman as well as a few assorted sharks, including a 14.9 kg smooth hound.
The water was perfect for fishing - clear blue and around 19 degrees, and with no wind we had a stunning time. At 12 o'clock we had to up the lines and head back for home as we reached our legal quota of 10 fish per man. It was an absolute stunning day on the water and enjoyed by everyone.
