On Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday of last week I had long time clients Kevin Ward and Kevin Ward Jr. aboard and the fishing could not have been much better. The winds were still very high and I was not able to take them to my favorite Snapper spot, but we were still able to find an incredible Snapper bite in a few spots that were out of the wind. Each day we were able to easily catch our limit of Snapper. The numbers of Snapper we caught were unbelievable. On Thursday we boated over a hundred and on Friday we boated over eighty. We only kept our limit and the rest were carefully released.
The highlight of this weeks fishing was clearly Snapper, but we also caught Speckled Sea Trout, Mackerel, Snook, Grouper and Redfish. The Trout and Redfish bite was a little slow, but with a little patience we were able to get a few keepers. The Ward boys have a cooler of filets going back to Georgia with them and they are already planning their next trip down to Palmetto for more.
In the coming weeks we are coming into even more summertime heat, but you can still take advantage of some great fishing. The key is to get out early when the fish and the fisherman are not affected as much by the summer heat. The Snapper bite is going to stay hot for a while, the catch and release Snook fishing is still on, and the Redfish should start to school in bigger numbers. Don't let the heat keep you inside. Get out early, get your limit, and get back in. It is not always that easy, but it was this week.
