This past week Sun Coast Kayak Sport Fishing has been continuing to target Snook in area rivers and creeks in southern Sarasota and northern Charlotte counties. The Snook have been very cooperative as the water temperatures warm the rivers. Many Snook are laying in shallow water - often yards from shore - warming themselves in the morning and then swith to structure in the afternoon as they seek out forage fish. There is a lot of small baitfish in these areas the Snook are feeding on.
The best baits have been larger crankbaits that run about 4 feet - and have a longer profile.
Since most of the day charters have been in the rivers the only bay fishing has been at night along the many dock lights and marinas. The Snook have been on the lights and cooperating very well lately. Sun Coast Kayak Sport Fishing clients have been finding the Snook very cooperative while using small swim baits on light spin tackle and white or olive colored clouser flies on 9 weight fly rods.
