Sunday I had the pleasure of spending the day with Jim from Clearwater Florida. The trip was planned to mirror the terrific snook bite we have been on the last 2 weeks. Bait is still readily available on the Skyway Bridge, several tosses net filled the live well. A negative .06 tide greeted us with some amazing views on the flats many void of water. Take time and observe, you be amazed how much you learn. Keep a detailed log of deep potholes, depressions and structure. The snook bite has been on fire so I was very confident our first stop on a dock would be great. The snook that had been solid resulted in a few ladyfish and trout. I typically will fish a snook spot for 15 minutes and if no action move on, with these docks having been so hot I gave it 30 minutes but the results did not improve. What is the old adage? That's why its called fishing and not catching. We ran south and quickly got back on the snook bite. We remained in one area for a couple of hours with snook, redfish and jacks eagerly attacking our baits. Chumming frequently did the trick. About an hour into this stop Jim's rod began to scream! Ten minutes later Jim landed a very fat 34" snook! We also had a jack that was tailed hook, jacks are very strong and powerful fighters now imagine one foul hooked in the tail and you can't turn it's head! Great fishing, amazing Florida weather and great company. It doesn't get any better.
