The Snook are still chewing baits up like crazy in the Sarasota area. Clients of Sun Coast Kayak SPort Fishing have been seeing great catch and release action for linesiders on both day and evening trips throughout the area. The secret to finding great Snook action is either to hit the beaches or find an area with good cover, deep water nearby, and moving water to flush bait through. The Snook are holding in these areas gorging themselves on the recent explosion of whitebait (pilchards). Live bait has been king but topwaters and the fly rod are close seconds for some line burning action.
The Redfish are coming! The Redfish are coming! What a minute, they are already here! The redfish bite is increasing almost every day it seems. Look for roaming schools along shallow flats early in the morning for some awesome sight fishing action. This week clients of Sun Coast Kayak Sport Fishing have witnessed schools of up to 50 fish or better from northern Sarasota Bay down to Englewood. Topwater baits have been the best when worked nice and steady over the shallows just in front of foraging Reds. If the bite hase been a bit slow, then chumming with cut mullet or sardines is usually more than enough to send them into feeding mode. The Reds have been hefty too running in the upper slot range or better. Clients have also been seeing a lot of great Redfish action at night too along the dock lights.
