While we catch snook year round here in Jupiter, the fishing really started heating up about three weeks ago. Big female fish are a little ahead of schedule and are already in their prespawn feasting mood. Every year before the big fish move into the inlets they stack up in a few key spots and eat and eat and eat! Those spots in Jupiter include a few key bridges and lighted docks in certain areas of the Loxahatchee River and the ICW(Intracoastal Waterway).
We have had our best luck throwing DOA Shrimp, DOA Cal Jerkbaits, and small glass minnow jigs and flies at the fish. Throw the lures well upcurrent of the fish and work them back over the fish at the same speed the current pulls them. Those big snook are lazy and don't want to move far for a bait. Lots of small fish mixed in with the big fish. Try to pick your tackle to keep the small fish fun and still give you a chance with the bigger fish (10lb Power Pro will really giveyou an unfair advantage!).
We have been averaging between 10-15 snook a trip, lots of jacks, a few moonfish/lookdowns, ladyfish, and a stray tarpon here and there.
Offshore fishing was tough here in Jupiter this week due to large surf, but it is calming down as I type and fishing should be really good this weekend.
Thanks for reading this report guys, it's my first here on reelreports. I look forward to putting many more up here. Good Luck!
