Fishing Report, Lake Guntersville 1/19/08
Water Temperature main lake 48 degrees
Water Temperature creeks 44 degrees
Between some extreme cold weather and commitments to help at the Huntsville boat show through Stratos Boats I was only on the water a few days. The fishing, has been up and down, it has slowed some with the bass moving back to the deeper grass edges from the colder weather, and then came some bright sun and it picked up again. Don't fear, as it is typical this time of year as the cold fronts move in and out that we get some slow times as the bass adjust daily to the temperature change.
Work your baits slowly but try also to create some reaction bites by snapping your slow moving baits like jigs and jerk baits but then being patient waiting 5 to 8 seconds before you move them again. If you get tied up in grass try to rip it through to create a reaction. It's the patience after the quick movement or snap of the bait that has been bringing the bass up to feed either through reaction or seeing what might be termed easy prey. Also, working some type of drop shot for suspending fish has been a good technique. A drop shot rigged worm whacky style for suspending bass is easy feed for a big Guntersville lunker; you'll find that this technique in 20 plus feet of water has some great catching benefits.
I'll be back on the water this upcoming week, working some of the typical winter patterns that have worked for me in the past years. I hope to see you on the water.
