Fishing Report, Lake Guntersville 8/2/08
Fishing this past week has been very typical summer time, some good times, some top water bites and some struggles. Luck, perseverance, being in the right place at the right time all played a role in your ability to catch fish this past week. If we had some clouds the top water bite was strong, if you could find some active fish on the ledges a crank bait produced fish and if you had some patience there was a bite flipping a big Tight-Line Jig.
Our biggest fish this week came on a Tight-Line Jig it was a little over 7 pounds, with numbers averaging between 9 and 15 fish a day in a 4 hour fishing day. The problem was that the numbers looked good but the bites were stacked in over short periods and there were a lot of long periods without anything happening and you just had to be patient until the next flurry of bites. In the heat, that made for some tuff times for the average fisherman.
I spent most the week in the mid part of the lake, we used crank baits on deep ledges, and Carolina rigged big worms Mister Twister 11-inch worms, Tight-Line black and blue jigs and a variety of top water baits.
All had their times when they produced some fish.
The bait is showing up all over the lake and the numbers and activity should pick up as we move through August. I'm now booking for August September and October.
