Our fishing has been holding up very well in Golfito, CR. Fished 3 days so far this week with some pretty good results.
Day one we did the inshore thing and it paid off. We landed a 30+ Dog tooth snapper which became a great meal for the crew. We also managed to land 5 nice roosters and a mixed lot of baracuda, snappers, jacks and a 5 ft houndfish. Something not caught everday.
Day two stated off right finding large school of spinner dolphin. We fished around them for a while before it turned on. Once the bite started, it was pretty good. We landed a nice blue marlin, 4 for 6 on sails and some 20lbs + dorado before the client decided it was time to return and hae some dolphin for dinner.
Day three we ran back to the area with the spinners and they were there. After pounding the pavement hard, it seems like it was going to be a hard day. We managed quite a few dorado before going one for two on sails. Then the moment everyone deams about! One off the rods goes off with a bang and the battle was on with a really nice 500+ lbs class marlin. After several jumps, it was over in a heart beat. The fish won it's freedom. Disappointing, but still awesome.
The fishing should continue to get better for pretty much everything as we get into the main season here. There have been a lot of spinners around which should yeld some really nice big yellowfin,200lbs+ fish. It seems most of the bigger marlin and sails have been follow all this activity. The sails overall so far this season have been up and down while everything else has been improving. Not, quite sure why. Hopefully, that will change here in the next week or two. If it does, we should be back to our double digit sail days. Time will tell
Pura Vida!
