Over the week we found schools in northern Pine Island Sound and on bars in open water on the south and eastern perimeter of Charlotte Harbor. They aren't real consistent where they show up day to day, but when we find them there is often at least a couple hundred in a school and they are big and hungry. They are averaging about thirty inches.
Inshore fishing for mangrove snapper has been on fire. We haven't really been targeting them yet we have been catching plenty with many of them running over two pounds while fishing for snook, redfish and trout. Trout fishing has been consistent while snook fishing has not. The smaller fish have been bending a few rods but we had a difficult time all week getting the bigger fish to eat. Hopefully with fall in the air that will change soon and the big ones will start chewing.
