Fort Lauderdale Fishing with Top Shot Sportfishing Charter Boat and Capt. Zsak

Griffin and Morgan Clary were down on vacation from Texas and decided to charter the Top Shot Sportfishing Charter Boat team to do some deep sea big game sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, at Bahia Mar Yachting Center, 801 Seabreeze Blvd., Fort Lauderdale, FL 33316. The Clary's were in South Florida for a week before heading back home where they both are middle school teachers. As they boarded the boat, I asked them what type of fish they wanted to catch, and their response was that they wanted to catch fish with steady action, which is exactly what we set out to do.

Fifteen minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in 120 ft. of water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, 1.8 miles from shore. We started out trolling with two #8 plainers, both with double hooked Bonito strips. For surface baits, we went with two Bonito strips and two Ballyhoos.

We trolled the reef from shallow water of 80 ft. to deep water of 210 ft. going over the reef system and looking for schools of fish. Fishing action started rather quickly - most of the bites came on the deeper lines with a handful on the surface lines. All the anglers took turns reeling in their catches – a total of seven Bonitos, four Kingfish and one Black Fin Tuna.

Next, we tried bottom fishing in 400 ft. of water. We used a 3 hook rig with fresh cut bait. On the first drop, we caught a Snowy Grouper and on the next two drops we caught Tile Fish.

It was now time to head back to the dock. The anglers retired into the a/c salon and enjoyed the relaxing trip back to the dock at Bahia Mar Yachting Center, 801 Seabreeze Blvd., Fort Lauderdale, FL 33316, while watching the plasma TV.
