Fort Lauderdale Fishing with Topshotfishing and Capt. Zsak

Ray Thomas and his friend, Pat Mangimelli, from California chartered the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea big game sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The temperature was in the mid 80's, with winds out of the east. As the anglers boarded the boat and were welcomed by the Topshotfishing team, Ray mentioned that a Sailfish would be a prized catch and hoped he was fortunate enough to catch one.

Fifteen minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in 120 ft. of water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, 1.8 miles from shore. We started off trolling with two #8 plainers down – one with a chartreuse sea witch and the other with a pink and blue sea witch – both had double hooked Bonito strips behind them. For surface baits with went with two Ballyhoos and two Bonito strips.

As we trolled the reefs, the two anglers reeled in four Kingfish. I could see a color change forming to the east so I headed towards the color change which was located in 400 ft. of water – an excellent place to put the kites out. We put out two kites with two live Goggles Eyes from each kite. Everyone was paying attention to the live Goggles Eyes splashing on the surface waiting for the predator's arrival. Time was ticking – three minutes left in the trip before bringing in the lines and heading back to the dock, a black shadow appeared. Right short!!!! Dorsal and bill out of the water as he frantically chased the Goggle Eye!!! Hooked up!!! Sailfish on!!!! Dave, our mate, cleared the rest of the lines to avoid a Chinese fire drill – this was a hot Sailfish!! Ray was the angler and twenty minutes later, he brought the Sailfish to the side of the boat. Congratulations Ray – you did it!!

It was time to head back to the dock at Bahia Bar located at 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316. The anglers retired into the a/c salon and enjoyed the relaxing trip back to the dock.
