Please be careful on Weiss Lake with the low water level !
Bass fishing is Good. With the warming trend the Spotted Bass and Large Mouth have started moving to secondary points in the spawning bays off the upper Coosa River and in the mid to lower lake. Use a Gizz 4 or Bandit 100 series crank bait in solid white, Rat L Traps in chrome and blue and chrome and green are working good also, a Texas rig with a Zoom Dead Ringer in Junebug is also catching fish. Start with the deeper end of the points and work your way shallow to find where the fish are holding.
Matt Mobbs of Cedar Bluff, Al. weighed in a 22 pound 5 fish stringer to win a BAIT tournament this past weekend using these same technique's
Crappie fishing is Great. The Crappie are in the spawning bays of the upper lake in 3-8 feet of water. In the mid to lower lake the fish are in 6-10 feet of water in the bays. With the warm weather the males are starting to move to the banks in the mid to lower lake and a lot of fish are moving under the docks, shooting a Jiffy Jig in color JJ13 in1/24 ounce under docks is a sure way to load the boat with some Weiss Lake slabs. Trolling JIFFY JIGS in 1/24 ounce is producing some of the best fishing I have experienced in years, JJ13 and JJ17 and JJ25 are some hot colors right now. A lot of quality fish from 1 1/2 to 2 1/4 pounds are being caught with the average of about 12 inches long. The Chattooga River is also producing some fair catches using a Float and Fly technique and minnows 3 to 6 feet deep around the stumps on the edge of the old river channel. Target the river from the highway 68 bridge all the way to the bridge in Gaylesville.
Come on over to Weiss Lake Alabama and get in on some of the awesome fishing that earned this lake the name, The Crappie Capital of the World !
Striper fishing is Good The stripers have started moving up the Coosa river to make their spawning run. Fishing cut bait on the bottom in the Coosa River behind Plant Hammond has always been a great producer in February and early march. The stripers will then move up behind the Lock and Dam in Rome Georgia, waiting for the water to rise enough for them to go over and on up the Etowah and Oostanaula Rivers to spawn.
Catfish are biting Good. Jug fishing in the bays of the main lake is a sure way to load the boats with some nice fish, The docks at JR's Marina is starting to produce some good fish also. Use cut bait, whole crappie heads or any kind of stink bait.
