Saturday's charter was with Ron Phillips and his A/C bud Brian Weeder. This was Brian's first trip to the woods of Mosquito Lagoon's back country and I wanted to make sure he had plenty of opportunities at shots of redfish. Brian has fished the Lagoon before including Haulover Canal and the open bays of the Lagoon. Surely I wanted him to see redfish up close and personal...right in front of the boat indeed!! Ron and Brian were doing a fine job in boating nice slot reds. Then after boating around 6 or 7 fish Ron hooked what looked to be another nice typical Lagoon slot redfish.
It sure was and had a huge bonus to the catch. As the fish got close to the boat I grabbed the net as Ron said "check out the spots on this one." Not thinking much of it I netted the fish and it totally shocked me!! Great job on your 23" redfish sporting 39 spots Ron!!
We ended our day with around 15 reds but more importantly I got to meet another fine fisherman in Brian. Thanks a bunch for coming along, you were a true pleasure to have on the boat!
Last Thursday's charter was with Hugh from Port Orange and his son and nephew. 10 year old Jake, Hugh's grandson, is hooked on fishing after this trip!! On our 4 hour trip we boated over 20 reds with more than half oversize....Jake pulling in the most and largest that went 12 1/2 pounds. Great job guys and I look forward to April's trip.
