Inshore Fishing Report
Spotted Sea trout
Inshore fishermen are always waiting for that fall/winter bite especially when it comes the spotted sea trout. The good news is that we are now in this "mode!' Temperatures have dropped; fish are moving, which boils down to "a hold lot of feeding going on!" The main reason is that the spotted sea trout feed so hard during these times is that it takes more energy to move about in search of prey. Spotted sea trout are "born killers" for sure!
Any small fish such as mullet, menhaden, yellow tails, and croaker are a great snack for this fish. With that being said, if you happen to catch any while (shrimping) casting, I suggest keeping them in your live well. There are several ways to use this "for sure big fish catching bait." The first is "you can always just go naked," which means main line tied to swivel or you can use tie a "line to line knot," to leader, and then directly tie on the hook. All you need is a little leader for this job. However, if you feel that the live bait isn't heading in the direction that you wish all you have to do is add a small split shot or two. This small amount of added weight will put a little more controlled depth on your bait.
For those that prefer using popping corks or traditional floats this is great bait for this application. You can lip hook, place hook behind dorsal fin, or place hook throw the top of the eye sockets. Any of these applications will work with this sort of bait presentation. I already know what you are thinking, "why didn't I mention live shrimp?" Well, it will work used any way that I have described. The reason being is that everything from small to large eats shrimps! And we all know why, because it taste so good!
