Fishing report for the week ending 4/4/2010
Finally a shot at real spring weather, its late but I will take it.
This week again brought mostly families which I am fine with, our up and down night temperatures early in the week have made snook and redfish very picky at best. These fish are there but at times they just wont budge because of just not the right conditions.
There are shinners showing up and getting easier each day but we are at a point where artifishials if presented properly can outfish the live bait.
I am seeing good numbers of schooling sea trout with slot fish mixed in all through the bay and near the bridges, with them are spanish mackerel, bluefish, ladyfish and some pompano. Your best bet is white redfish magic on a jighead or live shrimp under a popping cork.
Midweek gave a nice surprise on a family trip we came upon a small group of tarpon in a cove and of course I have nothing but light tackle on board. This happens almost every year and even though these fish were not going to feed it was great to see and as a result I am always now taking a heavy rod out just incase.
Thursday fishing with Bret Byam, his wife Cindy his daughter Shelby and friends Anistasia and Kelly we had a great day catching sea trout and ladyfish.
Here are a few pictures of the girls and their trout. These guys had a great day fishing, stopping on the beach, eating lunch at Barnicle Phils on the barrier island and enjoying a beautiful spring day.
Yes you don"t just have to fish to have fun on the water.
I am getting good reports from north Matlacha Pass and Charlot harbour of schooling mackerel and on Friday off the beaches of Captiva I saw lots of small mackerel chasing bait late in the afternoon.
I spent very little time on redfish or snook this week but the up coming week looks great for some bigger fish either on live bait or my favorite top water plugs.
