Finally, the weather is leaning in our direction. After that horrendous winter, our air temperature was over 70 and the water temp was only 60.
Gary and Missy joined me for a day of hunting down redfish and trout. The last few days , I have been targeting a large school of 100+ redfish in shallow waters back in the bay. These fish have been very skittish and not aggressively feeding.
We slowly drifted into the area and waited for the school of reds to come within range. Several times, we tossed out live shrimp in the path of the moving school of fish with no takers. We were getting a little impatient and discussed at their nonchalant attitude. But on the third pass, we had our fish. Missy reeled in a nice 26 inch redfish, that put up a great fight in two feet of water. Later, Gary had another red on and loss it shortly into the fight.
The action slowed there, so we moved north to find trout in the St Joseph Sound and the Dunedin area.
We saw numerous trout in the shallows, but no takers. The next move was to a spoil island where we set up to fish. I tossed out the live shrimp on a normal float set up and shortly after, we had our first trout, Then a few minutes later, others followed.
The action was on the slow side due to all of the cold weather we're having. Let's hope for some warmer temperatures soon. I sure the fish want mind either.
