Fishing along Florida's Space coast has improved reports Captain Keith Mixon (www.mixinworkwithplay.com). In the past week, bright sunny days, and warm temperatures have helped redfish and black drum return to the flats. In addition to this, water levels are beginning to rise in Mosquito Lagoon as well as both the Indian and BananaRivers. In the Indian River, north of Titusville, live shrimp have worked well when sight casting to smaller schools of reds. Most of these fish have been willing to feed in the middle of the day or even around dusk. These fish have been slot size with an occasional fish up to 30 inches.
In the BananaRiver south of state road 520, black drum have been biting jerk baits such as Bass Assassin's "Texas Roach" 4-inch Sea Shads when fished around boat docks in two to three feet of water. The average length has ranged from sixteen to eighteen inches. Black drum have also been caught near drop offs along the flats on cut ladyfish or mullet.
Along CocoaBeach, pompano have not been able to resist sand fleas when fished in a light or medium surf, especially on an outgoing tide.
