Eddie Bussard

It's getting to the time of year where we start mixing it up a little with

Shiner and artificial trips and I must say I am kinda glad for some change

in our everyday fishing routine that has been going on now for the past three

months.Don't take me wrong as I enjoy seeing my clients catch TROPHY BASS

on shiners during the winter months BUT I look forward to every spring so

we can start catching these Trophy Bass on artificial baits as well.

The start of the spring shad run is here and the fish are starting to school up

in the main river system on main river points and shell beds. The next three

months we will see some of the best artificial fishing the State OF Florida

has to offer here on the Central St Johns River. When I say schooling fish

I'm not talking about the typical 1 to 3 lb schooling fish found in most lakes

I am talking about Trophy Schooling Bass to 12 pounds.Yes 12 pounds.

Now for our resent report for March 19-25th 2010

The past 7 day we have had a mix of trips with a few artificial and a few shiner

trips. Both type trips have produced Trophy Bass.

Tony J of Sanford had a good artificial trip on Friday and got to catch his

first bedding fish why sight fishing. It didn't take long for Tony to catch on to

this fun way of fishing and he caught both fish we found on beds with the biggest

weighing 5 pounds.A total of 8 fish were caught on this 6 hr trip.

Monday I had a couple guys from Maryland for a full day artificial trip.

We were greeted with winds to 30 MPH and water temps in the upper 50's

but that didn't keep the big fish from biting as Mike caught the biggest fish

of his life weighing 9 pounds on a swim bait.Brain lost the fish of a lifetime

that smashed a spinner bait on the edge of a pad field and jumped and came

unbuttoned.A total of 9 fish were caught on a mix of artificial baits.

On Tue Wed Thur we were back to shiner fishing once again and things picked

up right where they left off last Thursday.Tueday I had Dr Barebo and his two

son's Cory and Patrick of WV for a 6 hrs trip. This trip was a little heart breaking

as both boys lost a couple Giant St Johns River Trophy Bass that jumped and

spit the hook.Dr Barebo walked a way with the big fish honors with a fish weighing

just over 8 pounds. He was lucky because two of the fish the boys lost we much

bigger as we seen them both as they cleared the water.Wed I had brothers

Chris and Mark in from Lakeland FL for a 6 hr trip and the fishing was a little

slow but again some Gaint ST Johns Trophy Bass were lost on shiners and a

total of 7 fish were caught on 48 shiners.Today I had Eric and dad Mark of

MI in for a six hr shiner trip.Last year Eric caught a 9 pounder with me on an

artificial trip and this year he wanted to treat his dad to a shiner trip.

The number of bites was about the same as yesterday and a total of 10 fish

were caught most weighing between three and six pounds.Eric and Mark

lost a couple Trophy Bass today as well.As you can see we had a bad run

of luck getting the Trophy Bass to the boat this week.It happens and that is

why we call it fishing.
