I have been spending sometime on the St Johns River the past week between
trips looking at spawning areas and I am seeing the spawn fall into place just as
we predicted for Jan.I can't say these spawning areas are loaded with fish just yet
but there are definitely fish searching for the place that fits them best to spawn.
The water temp the past couple weeks has played the up and down game in a big way.We seem to get the water to where it needs to be 63 to 65 degrees then mother nature sends us a cold front and the water is back down to the low 50's.
The fish in the picture was caught on a Bitters Vibe Speed Worm in less then
18 inches of water and although the picture is not great {by myself taking picture}
you can see that this fish is ready to lay some egg's very soon.One thing everyone
should understand about Florida Bass is these fish will bite in 51 degree water temps
as this fish in the picture crushed the Bitters Vibe as I buzzed it across the padfield
in 51 degree water.It's the high and low pressure periods after these fronts that play
the major roll in dictating when these fish will feed.
The water on the St Johns River is super low at this time.If you do not know this
River very well you should really take your time running from place to place.
I have Jan 15th 16th 17th 23rd 29th 30th open and I have a few days open in March Feb is completely booked.
