Our last salmon trip resulted in one scratched bait. I trolled for 3 1/2 hours, mooched for one hour. I keep thinking back to some of the last great salmon bites out of Hlaf MoonBay. The water temperature was alittle on the warm side on the surface. Most of the charter boats were mooching in 300+ feet of water. After all that, I asked the group if they wanted to try for some Dungeness crab, as I still had the pots in. That resulted in limits.
Today we ran for crab only. Nice leisurely 8am departure, back with limits before Noon. Birds and bait out by the Deep Reef, but no takers. We seem to be lacking the critical mass to go out and fish deep, to find where the Monterey Santa Cruz fish are using as a super highway to get to Bodega.
