What a beautiful day to be on the water. Today we had Dave Larkin and his two friends Dick and Sandy from Hardwood Michigan on board to do some shallow jigging. We went to the same location that Dave and I left the fish yesterday afternoon and they were still there this morning. We were pitching 1/4 oz. chartreuse jigs tipped with just 1/2 a crawler and doing some snap-jigging in 6 to 10 fow. Wow...that sure produces an exciting reaction strike. No messing around with it, many times the jig was totally engulfed and we needed the pliers to reach down and get it out. Some really nice quality fish today, many in the 18 to 20 inch range and we also had a 25 incher, a pike that we kept, and I also released a pike about 36 inches long. We did make a couple trolling passes up at the north end along a sharp weedline, and we only managed one keeper. The wind kicked up just a tad and I thought that would get the fish motivated again...and it did. We moved back to our jigging spot and we had some pretty incredible action for the last hour of the day. All of our bigger fish came from 1-1:45 p.m. and then we came in early with our limit. For being a holiday weekend there sure weren't many boats on the bay. The night bite is good, the day bite is good, this hot weather has em' snappin'. Here's a picture and video of today's catch, good luck from all of us in the Bay de Noc area.
