I was getting mixed messages on the weather report yesterday, forecasting conditions for today. The variances were all over the board. Earlier in the week, forecast 5 - 15 knots. Some reports even yesterday said 10 knots for today. This morning one site said under 10 knots. The HMB buoy was 17, gusting to 23 knots. 5 foot wind chop on top of a westerly swell every 11 seconds. Very tough working conditions. Usually we rockfish, then go for crab. Today, we pulled the pots to see if it would get any better. Sloppy, windy, rough - to put it mildly. 17 limits of nice grade Dungeness crab, we cancelled the fishing portion, too rough to run 22 miles straight into the teeth of it and then try to fish with 20 knots of wind. There will be other days!
Stormy Day for Crab
