Vancouver Salmon Fishing
Fishing has been steady in and around Vancouver, The south end of Bowen Island has been producing some nice fish as has the Harbour. Some early Coho starting to show up at the mouth of Capilano River as well as the odd Chinook. Gulf Islands are producing some good sized Chinook in the 12 to 20 lb range as well as Rock fish and Ling Cod. Trolling Spoons, Hoochies and Herring is most productive in these areas, everyone has a favorite color, ours is flaming Hans, blood & bones and army truck. The glo colors are also working well in most areas and becoming the favorite of many local anglers. More key to color is finding the bait, once you find bait you usually find the fish.
Here is a nice mid teens Chinook caught off of Bowen Island this past week.
Sturgeon Fishing the Fraser
The Fraser River water levels have been on a steady rise, the snow is melting in the mountains which causes local water levels to rise. Although the Fraser has stabilized the past few days, McBride water gauge shows a steady rise which means we will probably see another jump in water levels early this week. As far as fishing for sturgeon goes, we are still producing our average of 6 to 10 fish per day, we are working harder and covering more river than in the past few weeks but overall fishing is still quite good.
This fish was caught last week while water was high, this size is very typical of what we are catching right now with one or two larger ones per trip.
We still have space available for this week so if you want to get out and enjoy our great sturgeon fishery, call us and we will hook you up.
Vedder River Steelhead
Once week left for local anglers who want to try their luck at a Steelhead on the fly. The Vedder closes on May 31 for the month of June. Anglers are producing some steelhead on the fly so it is definitely worth a try. Once the Vedder re-opens on July 1, Chinook Salmon will be the targeted species.
Sea-run Bull Trout Season is closing in. June is our best month to experience this river.
We are lucky enough to have one of British Columbia's best kept secrets just outside our back door. Located just 40 minutes drive from Vancouver, this isolated location has no road access and is only accessible by float plane or Jet Boat. Difficult access means no crowds. Upper Pitt River is located at the North end of Pitt Lake, the largest tidal lake in North America. The resident trout are all wild stock - and incredibly beautiful. Good populations of resident trout and sea-run Char are in the river year round. Approximately 40 miles of river awaits you. Best fishing is from June 1 to July 15.
